Hiking
Guided trails from an hour to a full day led by an expert who explains the Dome and shows you historical sites. Prepare to be amazed by the views.

Riverside & forest walks
Wander along shady paths and sit watching the river tumble over rapids. Like their owners, dogs love these strolls in nature.

Flyfishing & Angling
The Vaal is famous for its yellowfish caught on fly. There are plenty of private locations for anglers, with big carp and barbel.

Birdwatching
The Vredefort Dome has over 400 species of birds, exceeding the total species in the UK.

Whitewater
Johannesburg’s own whitewater river, the Vaal,  provides thrills, spills and wonderful scenery. Rapids range from moderate to wild.

Canoeing
Paddle among the wilderness islands of the Vaal, encountering fish eagles and otters. Comfy, stable sit-on-tops require no experience.

Tubing
Drift, bounce and rush down easy rapids to enjoy a float trip in your own mini-boat. Pick a smoothie or a crazy route.

Battlefields
Dozens of sites: Mzilikazi-Voortrekker battles, Anglo-Boer Wars, rebellions and ANC attacks. Land, gold and power drove conflicts in the Dome. Find out more…
